last week i got the chance to work with isaac james on a gq-inspired editorial shoot for actor/dancer sam garfield. the three of us had quite a fun time. we spent the afternoon roaming around pasadena and pushing ourselves to work in various lighting conditions and to create very different looks throughout the shoot. sam was awesome to work with and was more than willing to entertain all our crazy ideas and requests.

we started out in bright and harsh overhead light near a power plant. but it was totally the look we were going for, so we worked it.

we then went back to my apartment to do some portraiture in front of the beloved purple dining room wall.  the light that pours through the window in the afternoon is glorious. i’m obsessed. so we cleared out the table and chairs and tried our hands at vanity fair-esuqe portraiture.

i loved how the light was pouring into the tiny alley way behind the apartment and of course, the ivy wall, so i had sam perch in the window seal. this was my shot…

and this was isaac’s take in the same location…i like his better. haha.

finally, we wandered around oldtown and went for a gq-esque fashion editorial. isaac was loving a heavy backlight on the roof of the parking structure, and i grabbed a few shots over his shoulder. sucka.

and here’s one of isaac’s series i just had to share….
finally, we ventured to the alley behind one of our favorite restaurants to find this awesome door, i had spotted way back in january. i was tickled pink to be able to shoot there at last.

bam. done and done.

be sure to hit up isaac’s blog for more epic photo goodness.
