when i first met candice + vince, i knew that they were the perfect match for j. shipley photography. they are fun, energetic and love to push the creative envelope. they aren’t afraid of being themselves and going after what’s most important to them. and they love to laugh and have a good time. this outlook and energy oozes out of them and it’s quite contagious. i love it. they are the types of people you can’t help but want to hang out with as often as possible and have at all your social gatherings because they are just that fun.
after many months of anticipation, we finally got the chance to do their beloved shoot. isaac and i met up with candice + vince and candice’s best friend/maid of honor kiki at union station in downtown los angeles. before we dove into the shoot, we quickly found ourselves lost in conversation and excited to finally get the chance hang out. i love it when clients become friends. we had a blast and had our share of moments of hilarity and some awkwardness as well, as is often the case when shooting in an urban setting. kiki had a traumatizing encounter with a homeless man at the bagel shop. the gusts of wind proved troublesome for candice’s flowy dress. we came across a shirtless man modeling for a fashion shoot and the photographer gave him the directive “i like it when you give me that take-off-her-panties-face…” uh, excuse me? we just about died laughing. i had a minor collision with a low-hanging tree branch, which was of course witnessed (and laughed at) by the passerby across the street. oh and we got asked to leave olvera street because apparently you have to have a permit to do shooting of any kind there. blast. i hate that. but what a grand ol’ time we all had. i can hardly wait for their wedding in july. let’s just say it’s inspired by cochella and peacocks. perfection! okay now onto to the photo goodness.
they brought props. PROPS. and when candice showed me what she brought, i was thrilled. and i soon learned that the duo has infused the quirkiness of the mustache throughout their wedding. awesome. so naturally, we had to start the shoot with some fun ‘stache shots…

we found a simple and quite courtyard with gorgeous soft and diffused light was pouring in. it was the perfect place to “slow things down a little” and capture the beautiful connection between them…

i love this pairing…my shot on the left and isaac’s angle on the right. the next pair is isaac’s as well.

how fun are they? seriously, i adore their energy and sense of humor. and commitment to laugh–always–and to never take life too seriously.

isaac had a vision for some train station shots, so he took the reigns here. the one on the left was one of my favs from that series. check out his blog for more.

and while i was getting the shot through the tree above on the right, isaac snugged this awesome marilyn monroe-esque image. love.

after our failed attempt to get some shots in at olvera street, we hopped in the car and headed down to the art district for my favorite series of the day. the backdrop was grungy, colorful and utterly perfect for the vibe we were going for. candice changed into a beautiful vintage dress and she looked stunning. i love this pair below in front of this brick facade.

next, we turned the corner, and found this wall and door. sigh.

and then they surprised me with this: a ’73 red cadillac eldorado. swoon.

and then the shoot evolved into something i was not expecting…a mad men -esque editorial. perfection.

this was isaac’s angle from when he perched himself on top of a bike that was chained up to a street sign.

and another pairing of shots a-la isaac james.

and there you have it: candice + vince.
